Event Description
Join the North Texas Mycological Association (NTMA) and our friends at Emory Market Gardens for a full day of fungal exploration, education, and community connection at our MushGiving Celebration!
We’ll begin the day immersed in nature at the Lake Fork Recreation Facility in the Sabine River Authority, where participants will take part in a two-hour guided foray through the forested landscape in search of wild mushrooms. Whether you’re an experienced mycophile or brand new to the world of fungi, this is a wonderful opportunity to learn, discover, and connect with like-minded nature enthusiasts. Towards the end of the foray, we’ll gather for a specimen discussion and walkthrough led by NTMA President, Sebastian Tabibi, who will share insights into mushroom identification, ecology, and field collection practices.
Afterward, we’ll head over to Emory Market Gardens to continue the celebration, less than a 15 minute drive from the Lake Fork Recreation Area. There, guests will enjoy a guided tour of their mushroom cultivation facilities, gaining firsthand knowledge of their sustainable growing practices and innovative techniques. The day will conclude with a live cooking demonstration and social hour, showcasing delicious dishes made with locally cultivated mushrooms from Emory Market Gardens — a perfect way to celebrate the bounty of the season!
Bring your curiosity, your camera, and your appetite for knowledge (and mushrooms)!
