About the event
The North Texas Mycological Association (NTMA) is excited to present our first class of 2025, Medicinal Mushrooms of Texas & Creating Tinctures, taught by NTMA President, Sebastian Tabibi. For millennia, humans have turned to fungi for their healing properties, and many of the life-saving pharmaceuticals we rely on today were derived from the unique compounds found in mushrooms. In fact, medicine as we know it would be unrecognizable without fungi playing a crucial role in the discovery and development of countless "wonder drugs" that have saved hundreds of millions of lives worldwide. Recent advancements in scientific research are only now revealing the full scope of medicinal mushrooms' potential, making this an exciting time to explore how these extraordinary organisms can benefit human health.
This informative and engaging two-hour course will provide an in-depth overview of some of the most notable medicinal mushroom species found in Texas, with a special focus on those native to the North Texas region. Under Sebastian’s expert guidance, participants will learn how to properly identify these mushrooms in the wild, discover their unique ecological roles in nature, and explore the specific health benefits they offer. Whether you’re a curious beginner or an experienced forager, this class will give you a solid foundation for understanding the powerful healing properties of medicinal mushrooms.
After the identification and discussing of benefits portion of the class, Sebastian will demonstrate how to create medicinal tinctures using a dual-stage extraction process. You’ll gain hands-on knowledge of how to make your own tinctures, a popular and effective way to harness the medicinal power of mushrooms for personal use. By the end of this session, you’ll be equipped with the essential tools and knowledge to begin safely incorporating medicinal mushrooms into your wellness routine.
We are pleased to offer this class free for NTMA members and at a very affordable rate of $10 for non-members. Our classes are hybrid events, allowing you to attend either in person or via Zoom. In-person classes are held every second Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Oak Room on the 2nd floor of the Dallas County North Dallas Government Center, located at 6820 Lyndon B. Johnson Fwy, Dallas, TX 75230 (look for our signs). For those joining remotely, a follow-up email will provide the Zoom link for the session.
We invite you to sign up today and take this opportunity to deepen your knowledge of medicinal mushrooms, their uses, and their potential to improve your health. If you have any questions or need further information, please don’t hesitate to contact us at contact@northtexasmycology.org. We look forward to seeing you there!
