January "Texas Star" Mushroom Foray - River Legacy Park, Arlington

Join the North Texas Mycological Association on Sunday, January 12th, from 4 to 6 pm for an exciting afternoon of mushroom exploration! We’ll embark on a foray to hunt for the rare and unique Chorioactis geaster, also known as the "Texas Star"—the official State Mushroom of Texas. Found only in Texas and Japan, this stunning fungus is a true natural treasure, and we're excited to search for it in its native habitat.

In addition to the Texas Star, we’ll be collecting and identifying a variety of other fungal species, discussing their vital roles in our ecosystems, and exploring their edibility, medicinal uses, and potential toxicity. Learn about the fascinating symbiotic relationships fungi share with plants and trees, and engage in lively discussions with fellow enthusiasts.

Whether you’re an experienced mycologist or simply curious about the diverse world of fungi, this event is a great opportunity to connect with nature, deepen your understanding of the fungal kingdom, and meet others who share your passion. Don’t miss out on this unique adventure into the world of mushrooms!

If you are a member, please join us earlier in the day for our Member Appreciation event held at Growl Records in Arlington from 12 to 3:30 pm!

We ask that you arrive 15 minutes early to sign in and register. This event is FREE for members and $10/per person for non-members. Also, please be sure to join our iNaturalist project and upload all photos of fungi you find so we can keep track of the fungal biodiversity located in the North Texas region!
