About the event
The North Texas Mycological Association (NTMA) is thrilled to invite all current members to our Member Appreciation Meeting & Potluck, which will be held at the vibrant Growl Records in Arlington on Sunday, January 12th, from 12:00 PM to 3:30 PM. This special event is designed to celebrate our community, foster connections, and provide an opportunity to reflect on the past year while looking ahead to the exciting initiatives we have in store for 2025. This event is exclusively free for NTMA members as a thank you for your continued support and involvement.
Our Member Appreciation events are the perfect occasion to connect with fellow mycophiles, catch up on NTMA’s upcoming activities, and engage with other members who share your passion for fungi. We encourage everyone to bring a prepared dish to share, reflecting the rich diversity of our community. Just as we appreciate the variety of fungal species we encounter in our local ecosystems, we celebrate the diverse cultural backgrounds and culinary traditions within our membership. Past potlucks have featured an incredible array of dishes from all over the world, and we can’t wait to see what everyone brings this year!
The evening will begin with a special presentation by NTMA President, Sebastian Tabibi, who will highlight the club’s achievements and memorable moments from 2024. This will include a review of our monthly events, community outreach efforts, and special initiatives, as well as never-before-seen footage from our beloved MushFest 2024, providing an insider’s look at one of our most exciting events of the year.
After the presentation, we will take a moment to address some important organizational matters, including the bittersweet farewell of Garrett Wilkerson, one of our valued NTMA Board Members. Garrett will be stepping down from his position on the Board of Directors due to a exciting new job promotion that he will be receiving in 2025. We want to take this opportunity to express our sincere congratulations to Garrett on his well-deserved promotion and wish him continued success in his future endeavors. His contributions to NTMA have been invaluable, and we are truly grateful for his time and dedication.
With Garrett’s departure, we will be opening up the floor for nominations for a new Board Member to join our leadership team. If you’re interested in contributing to the growth and direction of the NTMA, we invite you to throw your name into the hat for consideration. Following a brief discussion, we will conduct a vote among our members to select the next Board Member, ensuring that the decision reflects the consensus and values of the community.
Additionally, we will be rolling out several exciting new initiatives for 2025, and we need your help to bring these programs to life! As NTMA continues to grow, we’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to assist in expanding our offerings, from educational workshops to community outreach projects. This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved and make a lasting impact on our organization and the greater North Texas mycology community.
The event will culminate in a potluck social hour, giving you ample time to relax, enjoy delicious food, and connect with fellow members. This is the perfect chance to forge new friendships, exchange ideas, and share your passion for fungi with others who are just as eager to learn and grow.
Whether you're a seasoned mycologist or someone who's just beginning to explore the fascinating world of fungi, this event promises to be an enjoyable and enriching experience. We can’t wait to see you there and to continue building a vibrant, knowledgeable, and supportive community of mushroom enthusiasts here in North Texas.
Thank you again for being a part of the NTMA family, and we look forward to celebrating with you on January 12th! If you have any questions or need further information, please don't hesitate to reach out to us – contact@northtexasmycology.org.
